If Matera, with its famous houses carved in stone, has always piqued your interest, visiting the area on horseback is an experience you should definitely try.
This 1-hour ride, also suitable for beginners , will take you through the Murgia Materana Park, until you reach a belvedere from where you can admire the Sassi, ancient buildings where time seems to stand still.
We are waiting for you in the saddle!
What we will do
The appointment is in Matera, at a riding school, at the time chosen for the ride.
We will find the horses ready and the guide, before setting off, will give a briefing of about half an hour to explain the basics of horse riding to beginners, such as how to give the main commands.
We will then mount our horses and move at pace through the Parco della Murgia Materana, along dirt paths and asphalt stretches, in a landscape characterised by rocks and sparse vegetation typical of this area. The guide will precede the group on horseback or may accompany participants on foot, depending on their level of experience.
The 5 km ride will take us to a belvedere from where we will be able to admire the famous Sassi di Matera, testimonies of a bygone era but still more than ever present among the streets and alleyways of the town. In front of this sublime view, we will not be able to avoid taking a few souvenir photos, before heading back to the riding school.
The activity will last approximately one and a half hours, including a one-hour walk and a 30-minute briefing.

The horseback ride is suitable for everyone from the age of 18.
Ridingexperience is not required. The weight limit is 80 kg.

The meeting point can be reached by public transport (bus stop about 300 m away). There is also a car park and there are vending machines for snacks and drinks at the riding stables.
Any accompanying persons may follow the walk; dogs are also allowed, provided they are kept on a leash.
