Hot air balloon flight in Barolo over the Langhe

Get ready for a front-row seat over the Langhe. One small detail: it’s in the sky.

In the heart of Barolo, a group hot-air balloon flight awaits you, soaring over one of Piedmont’s most iconic landscapes. Accompanied by an experienced pilot, you’ll let the wind carry you for 40–60 minutes amongst the vineyards that sculpt the hills, villages and castles of the Langa del Barolo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And if, after seeing the Langhe from above, you’d like to discover them in a glass too, you can add a visit with a tasting at the L’Astemia winery . After all, it would be a shame to come all the way to Barolo and stop at just the view!

What we will do

We’ll be meeting at the L’Astemia winery in Barolo (CN). Here we’ll meet the pilot and the team and begin our adventure with a pre-flight briefing, during which we’ll be given all the necessary instructions for flying safely. Then we’ll climb into the basket and get ready for take-off!

Little by little, we’ll leave the ground behind and begin to see the vineyards of the Langa del Barolo from above, with the rows of vines following the contours of the hills and the villages, woods and castles that make up one of Italy’s most famous wine-growing landscapes. From that moment on, the wind will decide where to take us.

We’ll remain suspended in the sky for 40–60 minutes, enjoying a succession of completely different views. We’ll be able to rise to an altitude of around 500 metres to take in the hills of the Langhe and, in some sections, fly closer to the landscape, passing over vineyards and treetops.

When it’s time to come down, the pilot will spot a suitable spot and we’ll prepare to land. The ground crew will have been tracking our movements and will meet us with the organisation’s off-road vehicles, which we’ll board to return to the meeting point.

And for those who wish to continue their journey through the Langhe – this time with their feet firmly on the ground and a glass of wine in hand – it will be possible to add a visit with a tasting at the L’Astemia winery ( optional, at an additional cost) . We’ll enter the production areas, walk past the vats where the wine is made and descend into the barrel cellar where it matures, before heading to the Cannubi vineyards. We’ll round off the visit with a tasting of two wines, chosen to suit our tastes and based on the labels available, accompanied by a platter of artisanal cold cuts and cheeses.

Including the briefing, a 40–60-minute flight, landing and transfers by 4x4, the hot-air balloon experience will last a total of approximately 3 hours. The optional winery tour lasts approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and a half and can be requested from the organiser once the booking has been confirmed.

Who it is aimed at

This experience is for adults only.

To take part, you must be in good health. You may not fly if you are pregnant; have sustained injuries or undergone operations that restrict your ability to walk; are unable to maintain the correct posture during landing (bending your knees whilst holding onto the handles) ; or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If you have any other medical conditions, please consult your doctor before taking part in the flight. It is important to clarify any concerns regarding your health, as this could otherwise affect your safety and that of other passengers.

Passengers weighing more than 115 kg are required to pay a surcharge of 50 per cent of the fare. Please contact us privately for further information.

The experience is generally available from mid-March to mid-November on the dates shown in the calendar ( which is constantly updated) .

A hot-air balloon flight is an activity that is entirely dependent on weather conditions. The day before the activity, the pilot will confirm whether it will go ahead based on the latest weather forecast. If the weather is unsuitable for flying, the flight will be cancelled and you will be offered alternative dates.

The visit to the L’Astemia winery, including a tasting of two wines and a platter of accompaniments, is optional at an additional cost of €50 per person, payable on the day. Dogs are not permitted on board the hot-air balloon.

The meeting point is difficult to reach by public transport; we recommend travelling by car. Parking is available on site.
