Hot-air balloon flight in the Sannio region and a toast

Sunrise or sunset? It’s hard to choose. Fortunately, from a hot-air balloon, both are spectacular.

In Fragneto Monforte, in the heart of the Sannio region, a hot-air balloon ride awaits you, soaring over a landscape of vineyards, hills and villages bathed in the most beautiful light of the day. For 40–60 minutes, you’ll let the currents carry you away, immersed in a silence that seems to belong to another world.

Then it’s back down to earth, but only for the celebrations: breakfast or an aperitif, depending on the time of day, to toast an experience that’s truly out of the ordinary.

What we will do

We’ll meet just before dawn or sunset in Fragneto Monforte (BN). Here we’ll meet the pilot and the crew and watch as the hot-air balloon is prepared. We’ll watch the huge balloon take shape before our very eyes as it’s assembled and inflated, and, after a safety briefing, we’ll be ready to climb aboard.

The burner is lit, the basket rises gently and… we’re off! For 40–60 minutes, the air currents will determine our route, treating us to a different journey every time. From above, we’ll be able to admire the Sannio landscape, with its vineyards, hills, valleys and small villages.

Even the landing spot will be determined by the wind. The ground crew will follow the hot-air balloon from the ground and, once we’ve landed, will join us to lead us through the traditional ‘Battesimo dell’aria’ – the age-old hot-air balloonists’ ritual dedicated to those who’ve just experienced their first flight. We’ll also receive a certificate to commemorate the experience.

And since certain achievements deserve celebrating, we’ll round off the adventure with a breakfast featuring both sweet and savoury options, or an aperitif with prosecco, depending on the time of the flight. Finally, the organiser’s vehicle will take us back to the starting point.

The experience will last approximately 3 hours in total.

Who it is aimed at

This experience is suitable for anyone who is in good health and able to remain standing in the basket for the duration of the flight.

There is no minimum age requirement, but a minimum height of 130 cm is required to be able to see over the edge of the basket and assume the correct position during landing.

Pregnant women and people with severe mobility issues, or those unable to get in and out of the basket unaided,are not permitted to take part. If you have recently undergone surgery or have specific medical conditions, you must contact the organiser before booking to check whether you are eligible to take part.

The hot-air balloon is also suitable for those who suffer from mild vertigo: the basket is stable, the flight takes place gradually and you do not experience the typical sensation of vertigo associated with height.

Other information

The experience can be booked all year round at dawn and, weather permitting, at sunset.

Important: the take-off time may vary depending on the time of year. The day before the activity, the pilot will confirm the exact time and meeting point, which will be decided based on the weather and wind conditions.

The landscapes you may see during the flight may vary, as the direction of the hot-air balloon journey depends on the direction of the wind.

The hot-air balloon can accommodate up to 4 passengers. You are permitted to bring small items on board, such as smartphones and small video cameras for filming. Pets are not allowed on board the balloon.
