Full description

Learn ice progression techniques in the beautiful setting of the Morteratsch glacier, the largest glacier in the Bernina massif in Switzerland.

A day suitable for everyone, from the neophyte to the sportsman, dedicated to those who want to master the right glacier binding technique.

What we will do

We will meet in Lecco at 7:00 a.m. and set off towards the Bernina massif (it will be possible to arrange a different meeting point, closer to the glacier), driving about 2 hours.

Arriving at the Morteratsch glacier we will learn the correct use of crampons and ice axe in glacier progression, as well as all the correct safety and self-rescue manoeuvres.

We will take a truly impressive route along a real glacier bound in a rope, surrounded by an environment that is nothing short of spectacular.

We will proceed in complete safety for each and every participant.

We will address several key topics, such as:

  • Clothing and equipment
  • Rope tying
  • Various types of belays and anchorages on ice and snowy terrain
  • Individual progression techniques with crampons and ice axe
  • Rope movement and management on the glacier
  • Stopping a slip and holding a partner's fall

The entire experience will last approximately 5/6 hours in total. It is recommended to bring a water bottle, packed lunch and snacks. On the way back, it will be possible to stop at the Crotti above Chiavenna to taste some typical products.

Who it is aimed at

Minimum age 16 years. No special skills or previous experience are required. A minimum of training and walking stamina are required.
