Full description
Discover Europe's largest active volcano and get ready for a unique thrill: with this Etna trek you will experience an exciting adventure among ancient craters and lava caves.
Accompanied by certified naturalist guides, you will climb up to an altitude of 2,000 metres, admiring the volcanic landscape that contrasts with the blue sky and sea.
You will walk over ancient craters and have the opportunity to explore the interior of a lava flow cave. Get ready for aone-of-a-kind experience and don't forget your camera to capture incredible landscapes!
What we will do
The activity starts at 8:30 am with pick-up at your hotel or your preferred location in Catania (you will indicate the address after booking). After about 45 minutes of travelling, we will arrive onMount Etna and the excursion will continue with the exploration of a lava cave, equipped with the ever-present safety helmet (provided by the guide).
Then, still by shuttle bus, we will ascend to 2,000 metres, crossing ancient lava flows adorned with the yellow of broom and the green of wild vegetation. Once at altitude, we will continue on foot, venturing into Etna's lunar landscapes , amidst expanses of lava and walking on the 'buttonhole' craters.
The guides will show us the signs of the various eruptions that have occurred over the years, all while admiring a breathtaking panorama of the entire Ionian coast, from the Gulf of Catania to Calabria.
Once the tour is over, the shuttle will take us comfortably back to the starting point. In total, the activity will last about 5 hours, including a stop for a packed lunch and transfers.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is at an easy level and is suitable for everyone, including children aged 3 and up.
Other information
The activity can be booked all year round, weather permitting, and will be confirmed when there are at least 2 participants.
On request, the organisation can provide hiking boots and jackets free of charge.
The routes may vary: in the event of a sudden eruption of Mount Etna, for example, the guides will choose alternative routes from which to admire and photograph the eruption in complete safety.
