Private hot air balloon ride over the Lucanian badlands

Admire the extraordinary landscape of the Lucanian Calanchi from above and experience the thrill of a hot-air balloon flight together with the most special people. It will be an unforgettable experience!

You will be carried by the wind on a spectacular journey over this mysterious corner of Basilicata, characterised by canyons and conical clay formations, the result of erosive phenomena, which make it resemble a lunar desert.

On board the basket, just you and the expert pilot who will guarantee you a flight in total privacy and safety. All you have left to do is choose who to take with you and get ready for take-off!

What we will do

The meeting point for the activity will be near the Calanchi Lucani nature reserve, in the province of Matera, in an area suitable for take-off, which will be selected a few days before the flight, depending on wind conditions (the address will be communicated to you directly by the pilot).

The experience begins from the very first stages of preparing the hot-air balloon. In fact, upon your arrival you will witness the ignition of the burner and the balloon inflation procedures. Then you will have a briefing on behaviour and safety rules and sit on board the basket, ready to depart.

The hot air balloon will lift off from the ground and begin to gain altitude, flying according to the trajectory of the wind. As you look out of the basket, you will be able to admire the strange, sharp clay formations and canyons carved into the ground, which make the Lucanian Calanchi a real movie scenario.

The flight will last about one hour and will end with a soft landing followed by an aperitif of local products and the handing out of theflight certificate.

In total, the activity will last about 3 hours and will end with the return to the initial meeting point.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is of an easy level and is suitable for everyone from 8 years old and up (with a height of at least 130 cm). To fly in a hot-air balloon, you only need to be in good health. The only restrictions are for pregnant women, those suffering from serious illnesses incompatible with flying, and those with mobility problems in their lower limbs.

Attention! Please arrive at the meeting point about half an hour before the departure time.

This activity is exclusive and is intended for private groups of 2 to 8 participants. It can be carried out all year round, subject to weather and wind conditions.

The flight takes place in the early morning hours to take advantage of the best currents. The day before the activity, the pilot will confirm the meeting time and give you the exact address for the meeting point.
