Full description
If there is a place with alpine charm in Tuscany, it is precisely Lago Nero!
Put on your snowshoes and set off into one of the snowiest valleys of the Abetone! A simple but snowy 9 km route leads you through the beech forest to the frozen lake and the bivouac that guards it.
To end on a high note, a hot tea or a bitter while admiring the peaks that touch 2000 metres. Incomparable!
What we will do
We will meet at 10:00 a.m. with our guide in Abetone (PT). Here we will get to know our snowshoeing companions and, after putting on our snowshoes (included), we will set off in the direction of the suggestive Lago Nero (Black Lake). The snowshoe hike will be 9 km long, round trip, with an altitude difference of 500 m.
The first part of the snowshoe hike will be in the presence of the majestic snow-covered beech forest. Here, nature really becomes wilder, the presence of man begins to disappear and we come into contact with the forest asleep in winter.
Coming out of the beech forest, we are almost at the frozen lake. The cold is biting but the spirit strong and the destination on the horizon! The lake is surrounded by snow and forest, four whitewashed peaks stand out and make the landscape around it even more magical.
Then we arrive at the bivouac to refresh ourselves with our packed lunch (to be brought from home) and an offered tea or bitter. If we are lucky, we might also enjoy a slice of castagnaccio prepared by those who guard this bivouac.
Once again admiring the view around us, we will return to our starting point to say goodbye and return to our warm shelters down in the valley. Between briefings, stops and actual walking, the activity lasts a total of about 6 hours.
