Full description

If you love snow and winter walks , you cannot miss the Brigante snowshoe hi ke in the heart of the Abruzzo National Park. A historical-naturalistic walk through the forest of Forca d'Acero and Valle Fredda, an evocative beech wood all year round.

On the borders of what was once the Papal State and the Kingdom of Naples, there will be tales of brigands and stories of bears and wolves. An itinerary of 4 km and 200 m of altitude difference suitable for everyone, through forests, karst valleys and caves.

Live a magical experience immersed in winter nature. We are waiting for you!

What we will do

We will meet at 15:00 near Opi (AQ). On our arrival, the guide will give a briefing on the route and hand us our snowshoes (included).

After that, we will set off on the snowshoe hike. We will be right on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo, in the area that once divided the Papal State and the Kingdom of Naples, amidst woods, wide clearings and spectacular geological formations.

We will go in search of tracks and footprints left in the snow by the wild animals that populate the park. We will cross the striking beech forest of Forca d'acero and visit the inghiottitoi, chasms typical of karstic terrain where surface water drains away, and the cave of the brigands. This area has been the scene of battles between brigands and Piedmontese, in particular we will hear the story of Ferdinando Leone, who smuggled goods into the area.

The 4 km route, with an elevation gain of 200 m, does not present any technical difficulties: it takes place on medium-mountain paths, in wooded areas and flat pastures, with medium gradient ascents and descents.

After approximately 3 hours, we return to the starting point.

Who it is aimed at

Suitable for everyone over the age of 6.
