Full description
In spring and summer, the Apennine ridge is a popular destination for breathtaking views, but in winter it transforms into something truly magical. The snow-covered mountains and icy beech trees give this place analmost fairytale-like atmosphere.
Discover its most beautiful landscapes and colours on a5½-hour snowshoe hike. Departing from Passo di Pradarena and accompanied by a guide, you can spend a few hours enjoying nature.
What we will do
We will start at 9.30 a.m. from the famous Pradarena Pass, the highest pass in thenorthern Apennines, totally snow-covered and white, just waiting for us. The immense beech trees are now white and icy, a unique condition that gives this landscape analmost fairytale-like atmosphere.
With snowshoes on our feet, we will walk along a wide road and a gentle climb, until we reach the snow-covered ridge. All around us will be the Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco Emiliano, a unique and fascinating territory that has been a Unesco MAB Biosphere Reserve since 2015.
On the Tuscan side, we will be able to admire the white-dusted Garfagnana, the sharp Apuan Alps and Monte Pisanino, a limestone massif that dominates the entire valley thanks to its 1946 m altitude.
On the Emilia side, however, our view will linger on a singular rocky, granite conformation located in the town of Castelnovo ne' Monti: the Pietra di Bismantova, whose 364 m prominence is what remains of residual erosion dating back to the Middle Miocene period, i.e. 15 million years ago.
We will then return at around 14.00 to the starting point, where we will find a warm refuge where we may stop for lunch (optional and not included in the fee). The activity lasts a total of five and a half hours.
Who it is aimed at
The hike is suitable for everyone: it will be an easy and exciting snowshoe walk with a view of the Apennines.
