Full description

Treat yourself to asnowshoe hike in an unspoilt natural environment, dominated by the peaks of the Gran Sasso mountain range. The snowshoe hike includes a 6 km loop with no particular difficulty.

You will start from the enchanting medieval village of Castel del Monte to reach the Campo Imperatore plateau, where you will enjoy a spectacular view made even more magical by the presence of the snow cover.

During the 3-hour snowshoe hike you will be immersed in a bubble of silence that will allow you to appreciate the special beauty of the landscape of the plateau, known as 'Little Tibet'. We are waiting for you!

What we will do

The appointment is at 10:00 a.m. in the medieval village of Castel del Monte (AQ). A guide will be waiting for us here, who will accompany us on the hike, after handing over the snowshoes and poles (included).

We will start our snowshoe hike precisely from the small village located on the southern slope of the Gran Sasso and considered one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Italy. Our circular route covers a distance of 6 km, with a maximum altitude difference of around 150 metres, and is dominated by the massive profile of Monte Bolza, at 1,902 metres above sea level.

On the way to theCampo Imperatore plateau, we can admire the wonderful natural surroundings and enjoy the magical silence.

Once we reach Campo Imperatore, between 1,500 and 2,100 metres above sea level, a truly unforgettable landscape will open up before our eyes. In addition to the peaks of the Gran Sasso mountain chain, our gaze will also embrace the immense expanse of the plateau, defined as the 'Little Tibet' by the mountaineer Fosco Maraini and made even more evocative by the white of the snow.

If we are lucky, we may even spot animals such as chamois, roe deer or golden eagles. The snowshoe hike lasts a total of three hours.
