Panoramic snowshoe hike on the Altopiano delle 5 Miglia near Roccaraso

Have you ever heard of the'Siberia of Italy'?

This is theAltopiano delle 5 Miglia plateau, also known as the Altopiano Maggiore d'Abruzzo: the lowest winter temperatures in the entire Apennines are recorded here, making this scenario ideal for snow activities.

Just like our snowshoe hike in Rivisondoli: venture out for 2 hours in the company of an environmental hiking guide into the Abruzzo countryside and enjoy the panorama from an altitude of 1,331 metres!

What we will do

The appointment is 20 minutes before the selected time at the meeting point in Rivisondoli (AQ). We will be welcomed by the environmental excursion guide who will accompany us on this adventure in the snow.

Once all the participants have gathered, the guide will hand over ourequipment and explain what we will do, where we will go, and what we will see. We will venture into what is known as the'Siberia of Italy', the name by which the5 Mile Plateau is identified: the lowest temperatures in the entire Apennine range are recorded here, making this an ideal setting for winter activities.

With snowshoes on our feet, we will undertake a panoramic itinerary on the Colli della Portella: we will reach an altitude of 1,331 metres, from where we will enjoy an exclusive view of the Altopiano delle 5 Miglia, Monte Pratello and the Abruzzo National Park. The entire experience will be enriched by in-depth descriptions of the area.

We will finally return to the meeting point after having covered 3 km and +100 m of altitude difference. The snowshoe hike will last 2 hours; the experience will last 2 ½ hours in total.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable from 12 years of age; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

This activity is of an easy level and suitable for a first snowshoeing trip.

There are no overhangs along the route that could disturb those suffering from vertigo.

Other information

The experience is available from December to April and is confirmed on reaching a minimum number of 2 participants.

There is parking on site. The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport.

The duration of the experience may vary depending on the size and participation of the group. Thetime of the experience may vary depending on weather conditions.

It is compulsory to respect the clothing indications provided; if the equipment is not appropriate, the activity may not take place.

Dogs are not allowed to participate in this activity.
