Have you already experienced the thrill of snowshoeing on a white blanket of snow? Then maybe it's time to try the snow that takes on the colours of sunset, don't you think?
Snowshoeing during sunset is something else entirely. The air and the contours of the mountains look different, darkness takes hold and transforms the forest and the trail in a whole new and mysterious way.
With our 3½-hour snowshoe hike at sunset, you can experience the nature of the Gran Sasso National Park at its most intimate and evocative.
What we will do
We will meet with the EAGAE guide at Castel del Monte (AQ) at 16.30. Before setting off, we will spend a few minutes for a short briefing and to equip ourselves with snowshoes and poles (included).
The approximately 5 km route, with a maximum altitude difference of 80 m, will take us to the "Little Tibet" of Campo Imperatore.
We will be able to admire the snow-capped peaks of the Gran Sasso and Corno Grande as we walk along the park's paths, lined with snow-covered beech and fir trees. Here the outlines of the mountains will become more distant and the snowy landscape around us will begin to change under the warm, orange colours of sunset.
When the sun has finally set, it will be time to stop and listen and admire the nature that has changed shapes and sounds. We will open our rucksacks and take out the torches (battery or head torches ) that will help guide our steps in the darkness of the woods.
During the hike, there will be no shortage of stops for refreshments at some of the huts along the way or to listen to the guide's interesting anecdotes about the area.
We will finally return to our starting point after about 3½ hours of snowshoeing.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is at an easy level and suitable for everyone from 6 years old. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Other information
The excursion is bookable from December to March, and is confirmed on reaching a minimum of 5 participants.
Dogs can participate, but a leash is required.
The meeting point is not easily accessible by public transport.
