Full description

Discover theVoltigno Plateau on asnowshoe hike. A guide will take you along a 7 km loop of medium-easy level that starts in Valle d'Ombra along a beech forest, where it is possible to spot the footprints in the snow of deer and roe deer.

You will then reach the plateau, which offers spectacular views, thanks to the large circular cavities in the rock, known as 'dolines', into which the waters of the spring lakes flow.

You will then enter the forest again and admire the peaks of the Gran Sasso, passing Vado di Focina and Cima delle Scalate until you reach the starting point. We are waiting for you!

What we will do

We will meet at 9.30 a.m. in Carpineto della Nora (PE), where the guide will be waiting for us. After a briefing on the route, we will be given snowshoes and poles (included) and set off on our hike.

We will set off on a wooded path through beech trees. Walking with snowshoes on our feet, we will be able to admire nature surrounded by the unreal silence of the snowy landscape. The guide will also allow us to discover, here and there, the tracks left in the snow cover by deer and roe deer.

After a moderate climb, we will reach theVoltigno plateau, the wonderful clearing of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. We will be able to stop and take a look at the dolines that make the landscape fairy-tale. These are circular or oval-shaped cavities that dot the rock and through which the waters of the spring lakes flow underground.

We will then re-enter the forest accompanied by the landscape dominated by the Voltigno plateau and peaks such as Monte Camicia (2,564 metres above sea level). We return to our starting point via Vado di Focina (1,383 metres above sea level) and Cima delle Scalate.

The circular route is 7 km long with a maximum altitude difference of 250 metres, and takes about 4 hours in total, including stops.
