Snowshoeing on the Voltigno Plateau in the Gran Sasso National Park

The perfect music for winter? The crunch of snowshoes in the snow!

Set off from the province of Pescara and snowshoe for 3½ hours on theVoltigno Plateau, inside the Gran Sasso National Park.

Immerse yourself in fantastic snowy scenery, reach an altitude of 1500 m and discover the history of the area thanks to the guide's tales: it will be an enjoyable experience that will give you precious memories.

What we will do

We will meet at the meeting point in Carpineto della Nora (PE), where our environmental excursion guide will be waiting for us. At that point, we will get into the car and follow it to the location where the snowshoe hike will begin.

We will begin with a briefing of about 15 minutes, during which we will be given thenecessary equipment (included) and explained how to walk properly on snowshoes. Once we are ready, we will set out on the route and start snowshoeing.

During the first part of the route, a loop of around 8 km with a difference in altitude of 300 m, we will go through a wooded section, while during the second part we will pass through the Piana del Voltigno. On the horizon we will be able to admire the peak of Monte Cappucciata, one of the most important peaks of the Gran Sasso massif, and we will be surrounded by a wonderful snowy landscape.

The guide will stop from time to time to allow us to rest and tell us some anecdotes about the history of the area. He will also point out some footprints and tracks that mark the passage of the roe deer that inhabit the area. At the halfway point, we will make a longer stop, of about 15 minutes, to refresh ourselves with a snack (not included). Then, having regained our energy, we will conclude the snowshoe hike.

The experience, which will end with the return to the starting point, will last a total of 3½ hours , of which 2½ hours will be spent snowshoeing.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for ages 14 and up. Children under 18 can only participate if accompanied by a responsible adult.

The experience is of an easy level and suitable for a first snowshoeing trip.

Other information

The activity is available from January to March, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It will be confirmed upon reaching a minimum of 5 participants.

Attention! The guide will contact you the day before the experience to confirm the feasibility of the snowshoe hike. Depending on weather conditions, the itinerary and location of the activity may be modified. The snowshoe hike could be moved to the Campo Imperatore Plateau, about 40 minutes' drive away.

The address of the meeting point you will receive in your booking confirmation e-mail indicates the place where your guide will be waiting for you. There you will be given further directions to reach the location where the snowshoe hike will begin, which is a 15-minute drive away and cannot be reached by public transport. Free parking spaces are available nearby.
