Full description

Immerse yourself in the charm of the Ostuni land and discover ancient places surrounded by olive groves with this speleo trekking excursion in the company of an expert guide.

You will walk along panoramic paths in the midst of nature and visit the Grotta di Santa Maria di Agnano and the Grotta Risieddi, two karstic cavities dating back to the Palaeolithic era.

There will also be a tasting of typical local products, for an all-round experience among the treasures of Apulia.

What we will do

We will meet in Ostuni (BR ) and, having got to know the guide and the rest of the group, we will take the nature trails that will lead us to the Grotta di Santa Maria di Agnano, within the archaeological park of the same name.

This is one of the most important archaeological sites in Apulia, which unveiled the discovery of the skeleton of the Ostuni pregnant woman, who lived 25,000 years ago and is now preserved in the Museo della Murgia Meridionale. Although we will not be able to see her, the guide will tell us her story and that of the other remains and artefacts found.

Equipped with helmets and equipment, we will enter the karstic cavity to observe the stalactites and limestone formations. We will then climb along a path surrounded by olive trees and reach Grotta Risieddi, also known as Grotta dei Millenari, because of the ancient olive trees that surround it.

This is a recently discovered cave, which still shows traces left by the Palaeolithic men who inhabited it. From its interior one can see a unique landscape: the expanse of olive trees and the sea almost merging into each other.

The excursion will last about three hours and before saying goodbye we will toast with a tasting of local wine and typical products.
