Full description
Discover a unique rock habitat with the 2-hour Sassi di Matera trekking tour. You will explore this marvellous UNESCO World Heritage Site on foot, walking through alleys, churches and caves and immersing yourself in the history of the place.
The Sassi of Matera are full of charm, life and tradition, and anyone passing through for the first time will be enchanted. You can visit cave churches and caves dating back to the Palaeolithic period, a plunge into the past guided by a local expert.
What we will do
The meeting with the guide is in Matera at the time selected during the booking process. Once the group is formed, we will get right into the heart of the walk.
We will explore the Sassi of Matera, delving into the history and tradition of the place. We will walk past churches and winding alleys until we reach the Civita, the highest point of the town, where we will stand in front of the Cathedral.
We will then proceed through scenic alleys until we reach the Rupestrian Church of Sant'Antonio. Immediately afterwards we will visit a typical Casa Grotta: a typically furnished ancient dwelling. Finally, we will walk along the boundary line between Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso.
We will conclude the experience by heading to Piazzetta Pascoli to enjoy a wonderful view of the Sassi. The excursion will last about 2 hours in total.
Who it is aimed at
Suitable for everyone from the age of 10. Children under the age of 14 participate free of charge.
The activity is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

The activity takes place all year round and will be confirmed upon reaching a minimum of 2 persons.
The guided tour is available in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish. When booking, it will be possible to select the language of preference.
The use of trekking poles is recommended.
