Full description
Climb aboard an off-road vehicle and let your guide lead you along a 170 km route to discover the wildest and most authentic territory of Sardinia: Barbagia!
You will tackle the Gennargentu mountain range, experience the adrenalin rush of crossing the Rio Pirincanes off-road and the thrill of admiring the Nuraghe Ruinas at an altitude of 1,200 metres.
And it wouldn't be a traditional day in Sardinia without a lunch prepared by the local shepherds with their cheeses, cold cuts and meat!
What we will do
We will meet 15 minutes before 09:00 at the meeting point in Arbatax (NU). After boarding, we will prepare to discover the wild heart of Sardinia, in the mountainous territories of Barbagia!
The first place of interest on the route is the village of Villagrande Strisaili, from which we will head towards the Bau Muggeris lake. We will then leave the lake behind us to enter the territory of the Gennargentu mountain chain: we will thus be able to enjoy unique landscapes, where nature still reigns supreme. We will cross the Rio Pirincanes, a stream that has been flowing through the granite rock for millennia, until we reach the Nuraghe Ruinas at an altitude of 1,200 metres. The nuraghe dates back to the Bronze Age and stands on a point similar to a natural terrace from which we can admire the entire surrounding area; we will get off the off-road vehicle to better admire it.
We get back on board and head into the Girgini Forest until we reach Desolu and then S'arena, where we have lunch with local shepherds (included). The shepherds will let us taste the products made by their own hands: we will enjoy an appetiser with cold meats, cheeses, olives and bread and a dish of the day. Usually, they prepare a tasty meat dish for us.
We will then get back into the off-road vehicle and begin the return journey to the meeting point. There will be a second memorable scenic break at Punta Erba Irdes at a height of 1700 metres. Over the course of the day, we will cover 170 km together and spend nine hours in the heart of Barbagia.
