Full description

If trekking is your passion, you cannot miss the wonderful adventure in the Gorropu Gorge, the most spectacular canyon in Europe. This natural wonder is located in Sardinia, in the province of Nuoro. Gorropu is a kilometre-and-a-half long gorge of erosive origin that marks the border between the Barbagia territory of Orgosolo and the Ogliastra territory of Urzulei.

The limestone rocks of the Supramonte mountain complex have been shaped over time by the force of the Flumineddu stream, which flowing along the bottom has eroded the limestone rock to form the canyon. You will find yourself walking in the most rugged and wild territory on the island, but at the same time rich in charm and mystery.

Are you ready for a wonderful adventure to discover this spectacular natural monument rich in biodiversity and home of trekking?

What we will do

The meeting with the guide is at 9 a.m. in Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro.

We willdepart by jeep from Dorgali through the Oddoene valley, an enchanted valley where the rugged walls of the Supramonte meet the beautiful olive groves and vineyards of the Dorgali tradition. Having crossed the valley, we will leave the jeep in the locality of Sa Barva and from this point onwards, we will follow an easy and well-traced path that runs along the Rio Flumineddu river along its entire length.

After about two hours of trekking we will arrive at the entrance to the Canyon, which will open up before our eyes with its majestic walls up to 500 metres high. Along the 12-km route with a 250-metre difference in altitude, we will make several stops during which the guide will tell us many interesting facts about the traditions and characteristics of the area.

Afterwards, we will enter the Canyon (1.5 km long), which will open up before our eyes with its majestic walls up to 500 metres high. Here too, the guide will show us all the peculiarities and karst phenomena that have formed this immense gorge. The limestone rocks, in fact, have been shaped over time by the force of the Flumineddu river, which flowing along the bottom eroded the limestone rock to form the canyon.

At the end of the visit, we walked back along the road to return to the cars. The return to the starting point is scheduled for 15:00, for a total duration of six hours.
