Prehistoric tombs, canyons carved out by time and a necropolis that deserves the title 'largest in Europe'.
We welcome you to Pantalica, the UNESCO site in the province of Syracuse that will make your two-and-a-half-hour trek in the foothills of the Monti Iblei look like a simple walk. In the company of a local guide, you will discover archaeological traces from prehistoric to Byzantine times, while the wilderness will provide the backdrop to every step.
But don't worry: after this journey through time, the Terra Surti oil mill in Sortino awaits you with a full brunch that will delight body and soul!
What we will do
The appointment is 15 minutes before the indicated time at the meeting point in Sortino (SR), in the setting of the upper Anapo valley, at the foot of the Monti Iblei.
We will be welcomed by a qualified guide who will accompany us to the UNESCO Reserve of Pantalica, an extraordinary geological setting characterised by a very deep canyon carved out by the Anapo river over millennia.
We will begin our approximately two-and-a-half-hour trek through this primordial landscape and Mediterranean scrub, where the rock walls tell the stories of ancient civilisations. The guide will lead us to discover tombs, settlements and archaeological traces, as well as evidence of the largest prehistoric necropolis in Europe.
Once the trek is over, we will return with our vehicles to the Terra Surti oil mill, where a moment of well-deserved rest and conviviality will await us. Here we will visit the mill's production facility , immersing ourselves in the Sicilian oil-making tradition.
Afterwards, we will take a seat in the tasting room where we will be served a full brunch consisting of a tasting of Terra Surti extra virgin olive oil, plain and flavoured, on crusty Sicilian bread, olives, cheese, sausage and bruschetta with typical pate. This will be followed by the typical seasoned pizzolo and a dessert of ricotta and honey. Drinks included are water and 2 glasses of white or red wine per person.
The experience will last about 4 hours in total.

The experience is suitable for everyone, but is recommended from an age at which children can walk independently.

The experience takes place all year round and is confirmed with a minimum number of 2 people.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is flexible. You get a full refund if you cancel within 5 days from the activity start date. Within 4 and 3 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
