Full description
Take one of the most beautiful trekking paths in the Campi Flegrei, known to many as 'The Descent to the Underworld'.
You will reach the summit of Monte Nuovo, from where you can look out over the crater, through the pine forest and Mediterranean scrub surrounding the fumarole zone.
You will be in the company of an expert guide who will give you an unforgettable experience, unmissable for all trekking and nature lovers.
What we will do
The appointment is in Pozzuoli (NA). Here we will meet the guide and set off together to theentrance of the Monte Nuovo Nature Oasis, a crater that, with its five centuries of life, stands out as the youngest volcano in Europe, born in 1538.
Then our excursion will begin, taking us along the paths between two of the most important volcanoes in the Campi Flegrei. The route is 7 km with a total height difference of 150 m.
We will walk along the slopes of Monte Nuovo and penetrate through the chestnut groves and classic Mediterranean scrub surrounding the fumarole zone, until we reach the summit, where we can look out over the crater. From there, the panorama of the Phlegraean Fields will open up before our eyes, revealing the true morphology of the area marked by 40000 years of eruptions.
At this point, the so-called descent to the underworld will begin, through an oak forest, to the shores of Lake Averno, now one of the most important wintering sites for birds in the Naples metropolitan area.
Finally, we return to the starting point. The total duration of the experience is 3 hours, of which approximately 2 hours for the outward journey and 45 minutes for the return.
Who it is aimed at
The tour has a medium difficulty level and is suitable for all those with a reasonable level of physical fitness.
There is no age limit, but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The experience takes place all year round, weather permitting, and is confirmed when there are at least 2 participants.
You can bring your own dog, on a leash.

If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
