Can you smell that perfume? Open wide your nostrils, because this experience is lived first and foremost with your nose!
Join a truffle hunt in Portico di Romagna, in the National Park of the Casentino Forests, and accompany a chef-truffle hunter and his lagotti romagnoli on a search for this precious mushroom.
And, after the hunt, a delicious five-course lunch awaits you. .. truffle-based, of course!
What we will do
The appointment is at the selected time at the meeting point in Portico di Romagna (FC), a historic village in the municipality of Portico and San Benedetto, in the Casentino Forest National Park.
We will be welcomed by Matteo, chef and expert in truffles, mushrooms and wild herbs, who will accompany us to his family truffle farm. Once the group has gathered, we will board a minibus to reach the truffle farm, located about 3 km from the village.
Here our guide will introduce us to the world of white and black truffles, explaining the differences between the varieties, the ideal growing conditions and the secrets of dog training.
And it is at this point that Lidia and Pjuske, two lively sisters of the Lagotto Romagnolo breed, trained with love by Matteo, will take centre stage. We will see them moving among the plants, sniffing the ground and pointing out precisely where to dig.
The route through the truffle ground will be mostly flat and nestled between oaks and black hornbeams. In most cases, the search will be fruitful: we will witness the discovery of the precious truffle (white or black, depending on the time of year) , which will be delicately extracted from the ground.
The truffle hunt will last approximately 2 hours and will end with the return to the meeting point by minibus. Here we will have free time to take a walk around the village while waiting for lunch (included) , which will take place in the Albergo Diffuso restaurant, of which Matteo is the chef. Lunch will consist of a 5-course menu - two starters, a first course, a second course and a dessert - all based on truffles, excluding drinks.
The activity will last about 6 hours in total, including 2 hours of truffle hunting.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The route is not suitable for buggies, wheelchairs or people with motor problems.
Other information
The experience takes place on the dates indicated in the calendar (continually being updated) and is confirmed on reaching a minimum number of 4 participants.
It is possible to bring your own dog, as long as it is calm and on a leash.
For those who wish, it will be possible to purchase the truffles found on site .
Depending on the time of year, the activity could take place in a different location from the truffle hut, but still in the vicinity and reachable by minibus.
If you have any allergies, food intolerances or follow a vegetarian diet, please inform the organisers at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.
The experience is guaranteed even in the event of slight bad weather.
In the event of unsuitable clothing, the guide reserves the right to exclude participants from the activity.
The meeting point has free parking and cannot be reached by public transport.

If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
