If truffles have been appreciated since Roman times, there is a reason: they taste irresistible!
But how well do you really know this product? Find out with a truffle hunting experience in the province of Pisa: a truffle hunter and his infallible-sniffing dogs will take you on a typical day.
In 2 hours of activity you will learn many new curiosities about truffle hunting and processing, and then enjoy a delicious tasting session!
What we will do
We will meet at the meeting point in San Miniato (PI), where we will be met by the truffle hunter who will guide us through the experience.
After an initial welcome, we will walk for a few minutes to the forest where the truffle hunt will take place.
During the activity, we will walk for about a kilometre and a half through natural scenery made up of plants that create the ideal environment for truffles to proliferate , and we will listen to the guide who will explain many curiosities about this product and the training of the dogs that carry out the search.
The canine helpers who will accompany us will be Maya and Birba, both of whom are cross-breeds of the best truffle hounds and have an infallible nose! We will proceed slowly along the route, watching them put their skills to work.
After about an hour and a half, we will return to our starting point with a haul of truffles that we can buy if we wish! We will be welcomed by a delicious tasting (included), which will include bruschetta with truffle sauce, cheese with honey and truffle balsamic vinegar, focaccia, chips, cold cuts, wine and water.
In this way we will end our experience, which will last about 2 hours in total, with the irresistible taste of truffles on our lips!
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. Children up to 4 years of age participate free of charge. Unaccompanied minors under the age of 18 may participate subject to signing a waiver by a responsible adult.
The activity is not accessible to wheelchair users or those with walking difficulties.
Other information
The activity is available all year round, Monday to Saturday, and will be confirmed when a minimum of 2 participants are reached. The experience will also take place in light rain.
The meeting point is not accessible by public transport, but there is ample parking space nearby.
At the end of the experience, a tasting (included) of bruschetta with truffle sauce, cheese with honey and truffle balsamic vinegar, focaccia, chips, cold cuts, wine and water will be served. In case of mild intolerances, it will be possible to request an alternative via the contact details you will receive in your booking confirmation e-mail. No alternatives are provided in case of severe food allergies due to the risk of contamination.
Harvested truffles will be available for purchase. Alternatively, it will be possible to purchase truffle products from the activity organisers' shop.
Small dogs are admitted to the activity if kept on a leash.
