Get ready for a journey through the past and present on Mount Vesuvius!
Accompanied by an archaeologist and Cantine Olivella, you’ll explore the fascinating historic site of Villa Augustea in Somma Vesuviana to discover the region’s ancient connection to wine-making, drawing on myths and historical research.
A 2-hour experience, during which you’ll taste no fewer than 5 wines representative of the region, accompanied by small samples of traditional local specialities!
What we will do
We’ll meet 10 minutes before the scheduled time at the archaeological site in Somma Vesuviana (NA), on the slopes of Vesuvius. We’ll be welcomed by the archaeologist guide, who will accompany us at the start of this special tour.
We’ll begin with a guided tour of the archaeological site to explore the Villa Augustea ( also known as the Villa Dionisiaca) . Here, we will learn how the history of Cantine Olivella is deeply intertwined with this ancient site, exploring Vesuvius’s winemaking heritage through hypotheses, legends and field discoveries.
We will then make our own way by car to the winery, just 1. 3 km away. On arrival, we’ll take our seats in the tasting room, which features an open-plan kitchen and a sweeping panoramic view of Mount Somma. In this space designed for socialising, we’ll begin the wine tasting, during which we’ll sample:
- Hebon “Spumante Metodo Classico”
- Emblema “Vesuvio Caprettone DOP”
- Katà “Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGP”
- Lacrimabianco “Lacryma Christi Vesuvio Bianco DOP”
- Vipt “Vesuvio Piedirosso DOP”
The wines will be accompanied by small tastings of traditional and seasonal local specialities, prepared by the Resident Chef.
The experience will last approximately 2 hours in total .
Who it is aimed at
This experience is recommended for those aged 18 and over, as the wine tasting is restricted to adults only. Any accompanying minors may take part in the experience at a cost of €35. 00 for young people up to the age of 17, whilst participation is free for children up to the age of 6.
The experience is not accessible to people with mobility issues or those with pushchairs.

Dogs are not permitted at any stage of the activity.
Please note! This experience requires you to travel by your own means ( car or motorbike) . There is ample free parking on site, both at the archaeological site’s car park and at Cantine Olivella.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
