Full description
Have you ever wanted to experience the mountains through the eyes of a researcher? We'll take you to Alto Monferrato, between the Alessandria and Liguria Apennines, for a 4-hour hike on the tracks of the wolf.
In the company of an environmental guide and monitoring operator of the Life WolfAlps EU project, you will follow the tracks of the most iconic predator of our woods, learning to read the signs of its presence.
To end on a high note, a convivial lunch at the farmstead with the authentic flavours of Piedmontese tradition awaits you.
What we will do
The meeting is at 9: 00 a. m. in Ponzone (AL), where the environmental guide will welcome us and introduce us to wolf monitoring techniques and the characteristics of the route, which runs for about 5 km on simple, non-exposed ridge paths, with 200 metres of elevation gain.
We will then set off on a hike along the paths of Alto Monferrato, crossing woods and panoramic points between Piedmont and Liguria. We will live the experience with the approach of a true nature researcher: we will learn to recognise footprints, tracks and signs left by these animals, discovering what they tell us about their behaviour.
We will reach the Bric dei Gorrei, at an altitude of 830 metres, where we will make a panoramic stop with a view of the Alpine arc, from Monviso to Monte Rosa. Here we will explore the expansion of the wolf in Italy and its return to the Apennines.
We will continue along the Sentiero dei Partigiani to a photo-trap hidden in the forest. We will discover how this monitoring tool works and watch together some videos of the animals caught in the area.
The next stop will be Cascina Tiole, in the Apennine Wildlife Park, where we will talk about local biodiversity and visit the botanical garden. Finally we will reach the Museum of the Alps and the Memorial to the Fallen Partisans for a short final debriefing with films dedicated to the wolves monitored in the area.
At the end of the activity we will move to the headquarters for a convivial lunch with appetizer, first course, second course, dessert, water, wine and coffee.
The experience lasts about 4 hours.
