What does Salento taste like? And why precisely that of a tomato frisella enjoyed on a boat?
Set sail from Castro to experience the Salento coastline in all its beauty: admire the Palombara, Azzurra and Zinzulusa caves from the sea and relax with a swim in the bay of Porto Miggiano.
And of course a tasty aperitif on board is not to be missed!
What we will do
The appointment is 20 minutes before the indicated time at the meeting point in Castro (LE).
We will be welcomed by the skipper, ready to guide us on this adventure. After boarding, we will set off along the coast, preparing to admire some of the Salento coast's most incredible caves from the outside.
We will discover the Grotta Palombara, where 'palumbi' (doves) nest, and the Grotta Azzurra, famous for the play of light that colours the water a deep blue. We will admire the entrance to Grotta Zinzulusa, with its stalactites resembling hanging rags, and Grotta Romanelli, an important archaeological site known for its prehistoric remains.
We will then sail to theLuvara inlet, where we will be able to make an initial swimming stop at the skipper's discretion, depending on sea conditions.
We will then arrive in the beautiful bay of Porto Miggiano, framed by cliffs and stacks. Here we will stop for about 30-40 minutes and enjoy our Salento aperitif on board, with products such as friselle with tuna and tomato, typical focaccia, olives, prosecco, wine, water and soft drinks.
On the way back, we will make a short stop of about 10 minutes for a last dip in the bay of Castro before returning to port.
The activity will last a total of 3 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone, with no age limit; children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The boat is not accessible for wheelchair users, those with reduced mobility or pregnant women.
Other information
The activity takes place from June to October and is confirmed with a minimum of 4 participants.
The itinerary may vary depending on weather and sea conditions. There is no boat entrance to the caves; they can only be admired from the outside.
Theboat used is a traditional 7.70 m wooden or 8.20 m fibreglass gozzo, equipped with cushions, ladder, awning and freshwater shower. No shoes are allowed on board.
Dogs are not allowed on board.
On-site parking spaces are available for a fee; the meeting point cannot be reached by public transport. A transfer service is available from Castro and neighbouring towns, within a radius of 20 km and for a maximum of 8 participants, with costs varying according to distance: to request the service, please contact the organiser at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.
