Did you know that the Dragon Cave takes its name from a stalactite conformation that resembles the head of a dragon? And that the Grotta dei Gabbiani is the favourite nesting place of these birds? If you have the desire to explore the wonders of Santa Maria di Leuca's sea caves, this boat tour is for you!
Enjoy a one-and-a-half-hour experience exploring either the Ionian or the Adriatic side of the coast and take a 30-minute stop for a refreshing swim . Exploring this area will give you wonderful views and an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature.
What we will do
We will meet in Santa Maria di Leuca (LE), where we will be met by the captain who will guide us through the experience. We will board the boat and set off on the excursion, following the profile of one side of the coast. In fact, the activity allows us to visit sea caves on either the Ionian or the Adriatic side: the choice of route will depend on weather conditions, but in both cases we will enjoy extraordinary views!
If we proceed along the Ionian side we will encounter the Grotta del Fiume, the Grotta delle Tre Porte, the Grotta del Presepe and the Grotta del Drago. If instead we proceed along the Adriatic side we will reach the Grotta dei Gabbiani, the Grotta dell'Orso Cupo and the Grotta Verdusella. Each of these caves has a distinctive feature from which it often takes its name. The River Cave, for example, is characterised by a freshwater spring with a sandy bottom while the Verdusella Cave by a natural sculpture of Poseidon's face.
During the experience, we will stop to visit them and admire the emerald green waters that bathe them. We will also have the opportunity to take a break of about 30 minutes for a refreshing swim in this magnificent setting. The colours of nature and the sunlight will be reflected in the sea, creating an enchanting picture.
At the end of the visit, we return to the starting point. The experience, including the bathing stop, lasts a total of one and a half hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone without age limits. Children under the age of 18 may participate unaccompanied after signing a waiver from a responsible adult.
Children from 0 to 2 years old (included) do not pay but occupy a berth: to communicate their presence please contact the structure at the contact details you will receive in your booking confirmation e-mail.
It is not necessary to know how to swim to take part in the activity.
The boat is accessible to people in wheelchairs or with walking difficulties.

The activity is available every day from the end of April to the end of October.
Theboat used during the experience is 9 m long, is made of fibreglass, and is equipped with cushions, awning, climbing ladder and life jackets.
Small and medium-sized dogs are allowed on board.
