The Via Francigena is one of the most popular destinations for walkers, but have you ever thought about riding it?
This 2.5-hour ride will take you from Siena to Castello della Chiocciola and the small medieval village of La Villa, an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Tuscan landscape.
Along the way you will be accompanied by an expert equestrian instructor, ready to tell you every secret about the area you are riding through, just as a wise pilgrim would.
What we will do
We will meet at an estate 5 km from Siena, 30 minutes before the scheduled time of the activity. You will be welcomed by me, theequestrian instructor who will accompany you on this exclusive ride.
After getting to know the horse, it will be time to mount the saddle and begin our adventure. I expect you to already know how to ride and to master the walk, trot and gallop, but I will gladly give you a few tips to improve your technique.
Then we will leave the estate and ride along parts of the Via Francigena, an ancient road that has been used by pilgrims since the Middle Ages on their long journey from the northernmost regions of Europe to Rome.
We will cross Pian del Lago, where in the past there was a marsh that was later reclaimed at the behest of Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, and reach the Castello della Chiocciola and the small fortified village of La Villa. We will admire the imposing Torre della Signoria towering above us and look out over the hills, plains and countryside of the Tuscan landscape.
From here we will return back to our starting point. The activity will last 2.5 hours in total.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is aimed at people with riding experience, who must be able to master the walk, trot and gallop.
The minimum age for participation is 14 years; minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The maximum weight for participants is 90 kg.
Other information
The activity can be booked all year round and is intended for private groups of up to 4 people, who will be provided with a dedicated riding instructor.
To take outinsurance (included), it is necessary to provide the guide with your name and social security number after booking confirmation.
The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport.
Saddles for English or American riding are available.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is flexible. You get a full refund if you cancel within 5 days from the activity start date. Within 4 and 3 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
