Horseback riding is an activity for everyone. To practice it, you must be willing to build a trusting relationship with the horse, respect it and enter its world. Guided rides are also suitable for those who have never ridden a horse before. In this case, before setting off, an experienced guide suggests the best ways to approach the horses and gives a short introductory lesson to explain the basic rules of horseback riding.
Florence can be a great starting point for visiting Tuscany by horse. The elegant farmhouses, vineyards and rolling hills of Chianti make this area one of the most beloved in the Tuscan region. To capture the true essence of this land, a horseback ride in Chianti can be combined with a typical lunch or wine tasting.
In the Siena area, it is possible to go on horseback tours to San Gimignano or to other medieval villages with unique charm. Not far from the capital, you can also explore the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia, with the long rows of cypress trees typical of the most beautiful Tuscan postcards.
The Maremma is perfect for going horseback riding by the sea. Valgraziosa, around Pisa, offers scenic routes in the Tuscan countryside. While Lunigiana and Garfagnana are the most suitable spots for those who want to immerse themselves in the wilderness.
The Maremma Park, in the territory of Grosseto, is a protected natural area of great value. From the plains to the coast, the Maremma is a continuous source of surprises. Here the equestrian tradition has been widespread since the time of the butteri, the typical Maremma shepherds who tamed herds of cattle while riding a horse.
The best horseback riding tours in Maremma start from Castiglione della Pescaia, Follonica, and Orbetello and are ideal for those who want to ride by the sea. Moving inland, on the other hand, there are stupendous horseback riding trails in the Alta Maremma and the Colline Metallifere. Departing from Montieri, we travel through forests, hills, farmhouses and ancient rural villages for a hike in full Maremma style.
The Maremma is the ideal location for enjoying wonderful horseback rides by the sea and within the fragrant maritime pine forests, especially at sunset, when the scenery becomes even more impressive. Orbetello and Castiglione della Pescaia are among the best starting points for tours with panoramic views of Argentario and the Tuscan Archipelago.
Prices for horseback riding in Tuscany depend on the starting location, the length of the trail, and the type of experience. It starts at 35 euros per person for a 1.5-hour ride on an itinerary suitable for all levels. Alternatively, a private horseback tour with tasting or lunch at a farmhouse is priced at 160 euros per person.
Thanks to the wide variety of offers, gifting a horseback riding experience in Tuscany can be an idea for all tastes and budgets. The horse ride was very relaxing and the place is really surrounded by nature... the ranch owners are friendly and were willing to postpone the ride because it was bad weather. To do again!
