Do you know what a caracara is? Have you ever held an owl in your fist? And walked with a buzzard?
If you answered no to these questions (but wish you had answered yes), then you are in the right place. In Palagianello you can become a falconer for a day and discover the habits of fascinating diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey.
You will spend 3½ hours in the company of a real falconer, ready to share all the secrets of the trade with you. You will meet Barbara, Mario, Mc & Donald and all their winged friends!
What we will do
The appointment is in Palagianello, in the province of Taranto, at the time chosen for the activity. You will be welcomed by me, the falconer Angelo, and the more than 30 birds of prey that make up my family: crows, buzzards, American eagles, falcons, owls, barn owls, caracara, and others.
We will start with an initial introduction to the different species, both diurnal and nocturnal, to learn about their characteristics and habits. I will introduce you to the caracara Barbara, the star of our team, and her husband Mario, as well as the ravens Mc & Donald.
I will also show you how to interact with owls, buzzards and crows to call them to the glove , and you can watch a flight demonstration of falcons.
After this first introductory part, we will take a walk of about 2 km in the countryside around Palagianello together with the buzzards. If time and terrain conditions permit, we will go close to a ravine, one of the typical rock formations of this area.
After the walk, we will return to our starting point, now united by a common passion, that of falconry.
The activity will last a total of 3.5 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is open to all, with no age limit. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Good mobility is required to take part in the walk.
Other information
The activity is available all year round at weekends and is confirmed with a minimum number of 2 participants.
Dogs are not allowed.
The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport.
