Full description
Enjoy a fascinating and evocative tour, retracing the steps ofSt Francis of Assisi on board a carriage: an experience that will take you back in time!
You will visit the magical places of Assisi and Rivotorto and our local guides will accompany you on a journey through the history, culture and traditions of an area waiting to be discovered.
Carried by horses, you will wander through the village streets, past churches, sanctuaries and iconic sites, in the shadow of Mount Subasio and the unspoilt nature of the Umbrian Apennines.
The walk will culminate with a visit to a wine cellar, followed by an excellent tasting of local wines and typical products.
What we will do
The meeting point is Rivotorto, a hamlet of Assisi (PG). We will be welcomed by our guides, made to sit in the carriage, and we will be immediately ready to leave.
The first stop on our tour will be the Sanctuary of St Francis, which houses a small structure called the Tugurio, which has gone down in history because it was the place where the Umbrian saint founded theFranciscan order.
We will then proceed to a small church known to be the leper colony where Francis and Clare treated leprosy patients. Next stop will be the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Porziuncola, a symbolic place of Franciscan worship.
After this plunge into history and religious architecture, it will also be time to think about the palate and discover the food and wine goodness that Umbria has to offer. The coach will then take us to a wine cellar where an excellent wine tasting awaits us.
Before activating our taste buds, the owners will give us a tour of the vineyards and cellars, explaining the difference between the various types of grapes and the processes involved in their production. Then we will sit down at the table to taste a selection of the best labels and typical local products.
After the convivial moment, we will be taken by carriage back to our starting point and say goodbye until the next adventure!
The activity lasts a total of about 4 hours.

Children aged 6 to 9 have a reduced rate; please contact us to make a reservation.

Attention! Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes in advance.
This activity can be carried out all year round, subject to weather conditions and guide availability.
The tasting is included in the fee and includes salad, wild boar sausage bruschetta with oil, bruschetta with dried tomatoes, bruschetta with mushrooms, bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and 4 types of wine.
In case of allergies, intolerances or other food choices (e.g. celiacs, vegetarians), alternative tasting options are available. Please contact the organiser after the booking confirmation to inform him of your requirements.
The tour is private. Apart from the guides, there will only be you and the people you wish to take with you in the carriage. On request, a different time can be arranged with the guide.
Each carriage can carry a maximum of 6 people. For groups of several participants, 2 carriages will be used.
A shuttle service to and from Assisi and neighbouring areas, within a radius of 30 km, is also available on request at a cost of €30 round trip.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
