Horse trekking to the Vitozza caves with picnic

You may be wondering what the Vitozza caves are.

They are one of the largest rock settlements in Italy, about 200 tufa caves in the beautiful natural setting of the Maremma. You will be able to explore them free of charge and independently on our horseback ride: from Sorano, you will reach Vitozza, which will be the setting for our picnic lunch break.

A riding experience of over 4 hours, to discover Tuscany in close contact with the territory!

What we will do

The appointment is 10 minutes before the selected time at the meeting point in Sorano (GR). We will be welcomed by the equestrian guide who will accompany us on this day on horseback!

Once all the participants have gathered, there will be a briefing lasting about 10 minutes during which we will be explained the rules of conduct, the basics of horse riding, and provided with all the useful information for carrying out the activity. We will then climb into the saddle with an American mount, one at a time with the support of the guide.

It is then that our ride will begin: we will ride through fields, vineyards, olive groves and woods characteristic of the Maremma. We will venture as far as Vitozza, a rupestrian settlement that we will be able to visit free of charge and on our own during the lunch stop. This will be the setting for our picnic (included) with cold meats, cheeses, vegetables and, when available, produce from the guide's garden. The stop will last one and a half hours in autumn and winter, and three hours in spring and summer; during these hours it will also be possible to rest in the hammocks that will be carried in the saddlebags.

We will then return to the riding stables. The horseback ride will last 4 ½ hours; the experience will last a total of 6 or 7 ½ hours depending on the time of year.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable from the age of 14; children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the riding hall.

A maximum weight of 100 kg is required to participate.

The activity is of an easy level and suitable for a first horse riding experience.

Attention! Once the booking has been confirmed, please contact the guide at the contact details given in the booking confirmation e-mail to inform him/her of the height, weight and experience level of the participants.

The duration of the experience is variable and depends on the length of the picnic break: generally, in autumn and winter, the break lasts 1½ hours while in spring and summer it lasts 3 hours. In autumn and winter, the total duration of the experience will be 6 hours, while in spring and summer the total duration will be 7 ½ hours.

The experience takes place from March to December and is confirmed on reaching a minimum number of 2 participants.

There is free parking on site. The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport.

Participants do not need to carry rucksacks as any personal items will be placed in special saddlebags.

A tour of nearby Sorano and Pitigliano is recommended for any accompanying persons . Leashed dogs are allowed at the riding stables.
