There are those who turn water into wine, and those who turn oil into a bar of soap!

During this natural soap-making workshop at the Terra Surti oil mill, you will make a bar of soap fromextra virgin olive oil with your own hands, turning it into a fragrant souvenir to take home.

But first, you will walk among more than 3, 000 olive trees on the slopes of the Monti Iblei and witness the secrets of EVO oil production, amidst state-of-the-art machinery and traditional techniques handed down through three generations.

A 3-hour experience that will end with an oil tasting followed by brunch - because not only your hands, but also your palate deserves to be pampered!

What we will do

The meeting point is 15 minutes before the indicated time at the Terra Surti oil mill in Sortino (SR), in the picturesque setting of the Monti Iblei.

We will be welcomed by the guide, after which we will move from the oil mill to the olive grove, which can be reached by car in five minutes. Here we will begin a relaxing walk among the olive trees, while we listen to the family history of the oil mill and the traditional cultivation techniques handed down through generations.

After the walk we will return to the oil mill, where we will visit the production room and learn about the modern machinery and advanced technology used to obtain EVO oil and its derivative products. The guide will explain in detail how extraction takes place at low temperatures, but above all he will show us the process of natural saponification 'done the old-fashioned way'.

At this point the most fascinating moment will begin: the workshop dedicated to the creation of natural soap! We will watch and actively participate in the preparation of cold soap, using Terra Surti olive oil as fat for saponification. We will be able to customise our soap bar with fragrant aromas, dried flowers and by choosing the shape we prefer. At the end of the process we will have obtained an authentic handmade souvenir to take home!

Afterwards, we will conclude with a brunch-tasting of plain and flavoured extra virgin olive oil , accompanied by Sicilian bread, olives, seasoned cheese and sausage, and bruschetta with typical pâtés, followed by the typical seasoned 'pizzolo', a dessert made with honey and ricotta cheese, accompanied by two glasses of wine.

The experience will last about three hours in total.
