Full description

Snowshoeing around a frozen lake? That's the magic of winter!

Put on your snowshoes and join a 3-hour adventure in Valpelline, in the snowy woods around Lake Lexert.

Explore this unspoilt valley in the Aosta Valley with an expert guide and be fascinated by the whiteness and purity of the snow.

What we will do

We will meet at the meeting point in Bionaz (AO), 10 minutes before 10:00 am. We will be welcomed by our guide, who will hand us snowshoes and poles (included) and introduce us to the route we will be taking.

Wearing snowshoes, we will enter the larch woods surrounding Lake Lexert, a lovely body of water at an altitude of 1555 metres. Amidst gentle ups and downs in the snow, we will seem to move away from the lake a little and then find ourselves right on the shore and make a loop all around it.

Along the way, we will make brief stops at two vantage points: one to admire the summit of the Matterhorn and Dent d'Herens, the Valpelline's 4000-metre-plus peak, and another to catch a glimpse of a waterfall on the other side of the valley.

The route will involve between 3 and 5 km of snowshoeing, with a difference in altitude of around 100 m, and will end with the return to the meeting point at around 1 pm. The activity will last a total of 3 hours.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for ages 5 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The snowshoe hike is of an easy level; the only requirement is to be able to sustain a 3-hour walk in the mountains.

Other information

The activity takes place from mid-December to mid-March and is confirmed with a minimum number of 15 people.

Dogs are allowed, provided they are socialised and accepted by the rest of the group: if you would like to participate with your four-legged friend, please inform the guide in advance at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.

The meeting point can be reached by bus from Aosta; free parking is available on site.
