Full description

Hey-ho! Hey-ho! Let's go snowshoeing!

At Ollomont in Valpelline, an adventure worthy of the Seven Dwarfs awaits you: put on your snowshoes and walk along snowy paths until you reach the entrance to a mine, then descend underground to explore the ancient passages used by miners.

A 3-hour snowshoe hi ke with an expert guide to discover every secret of the area: above and below ground!

What we will do

We will meet at the hamlet of Rey di Ollomont (AO), 10 minutes before 10:00 am.

We will be welcomed by our guide, who will hand us snowshoes and poles (included) and introduce us to the history of the area, linked to the existence of copper mines active between 1700 and the mid-1900s.

Snowshoes on our feet, we will walk a first stretch to reach the entrance of the Saint Jean mine, crossing larch woods and snow-covered meadows. Around 11.30 a.m., we'll arrive at the mines and temporarily remove our snowshoes to put on our helmets: it will be time to descend into the bowels of the earth!

Using head torches, we will explore a flat section of the mines 175 metres long: it will be a journey into the history of the mountain, to discover an activity that has left important traces in the Valpelline area.

After spending about 40 minutes inside the mines, we will go out into the open air and put the snowshoes back on our feet to complete our route. We will pass another part of the mines, the Balme section pit, before returning to the meeting point for final greetings around 1pm.

The route will involve between 3 and 5 km of snowshoeing, with an altitude difference of around 100 m. The activity will last a total of 3 hours.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for ages 5 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The snowshoe hike is of an easy level; the only requirement is to be able to sustain a 3-hour walk in the mountains.

The activity takes place from mid-December to mid-March and is confirmed with a minimum number of 10 people.

Dogs are allowed, provided they are socialised and accepted by the rest of the group: if you would like to participate with your four-legged friend, please inform the guide in advance at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.
