Full description

Much more than a snowshoe hike: an experience to discover the area, in the company of our Environmental Hiking Guide!

Take part in a snow adventure in the Rho Valley: walk to the Montserrat Chapel with panoramic views over the valley, discovering history and nature step by step.

A 3-hour hike in the beautiful winter setting of Bardonecchia.

What we will do

The appointment is 15 minutes before 10:00 a.m. at the meeting point in Bardonecchia (TO). We will be welcomed by the Environmental Hiking Guide who will accompany us on this adventure in the snow!

Once all the participants have gathered, the snowshoes will be handed out, followed by a brief explanation of their use. Once they have been put on, we will be ready to start our snowshoe hike: we will begin by walking along an old military road framed by ash trees, pines, junipers and other shrubs that characterise this slope; we will then enter the Rho Valley, inhabited by spruces and larches.

We cross a wooden bridge over the Rho torrent and continue until we reach the village of Granges della Rho, so called because of the characteristic dwellings we encounter along the way; from up here we can admire Monte 4 Sorelle and Colle della Rho. We will then take a mule track that will lead us to the Montserrat Chapel, the finish of this snowshoe hike: here we will have a break with a panoramic view of the valley.

On the way back, we will again pass through the former village and then reach the Chapel of Saints Margarita and Sebastian, where an ancient oil lantern is kept, used in ancient times by wayfarers who had to cross the border into France. After an initial, rather steep downhill section, the gradient eases until we arrive in Borgovecchio di Bardonecchia.

We will finally return to the meeting point, having covered 8.5 km with 500 m of altitude difference. The snowshoe hike will last about 3 hours; the total experience will last about 3 ½ hours.
