Full description
Get ready to discover an underground world rich in history with a6-hour hike in the hills around the city of Siena.
Accompanied by an environmental excursion guide, you will cross the gentle hills of the Montagnola Senese and walk along the Grand Duke's Canal (a good 2.2 km long) illuminated only by a head torch. It will be a multi-faceted trek , one of a kind.
All the equipment is included in the tour, you just enjoy the experience!
What we will do
The starting point of our trek will be Santa Colomba, a hamlet of Monteriggioni (SI). Equipped with trekking poles and frontal LED lights, we will be ready to begin our hike in the Sienese hills.
The route will skirt the famous Via Francigena with its hermitages evoking a grandiose past. We will walk through the Montagnola Senese between two pearls of Tuscany, namely the city of Siena and the enchanting village of Monteriggioni.
The highlight of our tour will be the Grand Duke's Canal, a 2200 m long tunnel built by the Grand Duke of Tuscany to drain the marshy areas surrounding the city of Siena. We will cross the entire length of the canal, armed with a headlamp and a pinch of curiosity. It will be a unique opportunity to observe a glimpse of what lies beneath the ground!
The activity will last a total of 6 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is easy and suitable for everyone from the age of 10.
The route is not suitable for those suffering from claustrophobia as it runs for 2 km inside an unlit tunnel.

The activity takes place all year round at weekends and is confirmed when a minimum number of 5 participants is reached.

If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is flexible. You get a full refund if you cancel within 5 days from the activity start date. Within 4 and 3 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
