Full description

If you think the high point of life is to buy packaged Fontina cheese at the supermarket, get ready to hike to an altitude of 1, 000 to look into the eyes of the cows that produced it!

Join this trekking in Val d'Ayas and tasting of alpine products in Champoluc, in the province of Aosta.

A regenerating 3-hour hike guided by mountain professionals, designed to combine the pleasure of a nature walk with a close encounter with the most authentic cheese-making tradition of the Aosta Valley!

What we will do

The meeting point is 15 minutes before the start time in Champoluc, Ayas (AO). We will be welcomed by our official nature guides and, after a briefing on the route, we will set off along the paths of the beautiful Val d'Ayas.

We will face an easy trek, characterised by an altitude difference of around 300 metres. During the walk, the guides will describe the surrounding alpine environment, revealing the history of the valley, local traditions and the most fascinating naturalistic, geological and floral-faunistic aspects of the Aosta Valley area.

The walk will lead us to a high-altitude mountain pasture, where we will meet local producers. If it is not too busy when we arrive, we will be able to watch the milking of the animals or take a short tour of the maturing rooms where the wheels of Fontina, the region's iconic cheese, rest.

If this is not possible, we will sit down for a tasting of typical cheeses (included) . Depending on the availability of the day, we may taste other artisanal specialities such as yoghurt, zero-mileage honey or local wine.

Once the gastronomic experience is over and we have said goodbye to the cheesemakers, we will set off again, following the same path back to our starting point.

The experience lasts a total of 3 hours.
