Truffle hunting with welcome aperitif in Costigliole d'Asti

Argo, Ulysses' faithful dog, recognised his master after twenty years. You, on the other hand, will get to know another Argus, the one who has an infallible nose for truffles!

Take part in this truffle-hunting experience in Costigliole d'Asti: together with Trifolao and his inseparable dog, you will discover the techniques and stories linked to this fascinating world.

An interactive experience lasting about 1 hour, with a welcome truffle aperitif included!

What we will do

The appointment is at theselected time at the meeting point in Boglietto, a hamlet of Costigliole d'Asti (AT). We will be welcomed by Gabriele, the Trifolao, and his dog Argo, an indefatigable 11-year-old half-breed.

The hunt will take place in a flat didactic truffle ground, located about 200 metres on foot from the meeting point: a comfortable and easily accessible environment, where the search is simulated and made more interactive thanks to the truffles hidden in advance. This mode allows you to observe the real technique of the dog and the truffle hunter without risking long waits.

The experience will begin with an explanation of how to train a truffle dog: we will start with a demonstration on black truffles, which are shallower and easier to find. We will see Argo move swiftly and decisively between the hazelnut trees: with two paws he will show us how to locate the hidden treasure.

Then we will stop for a welcome drink under a gazebo: a glass of prosecco accompanied by a truffle appetiser. While we toast, Gabriele will tell us some anecdotes and curiosities about his craft.

The demonstration will continue with the search for the white truffle, which requires more commitment and patience. Here Argo will have to rasp deeper, while the Trifolao will intervene with his hoe to gently extract the truffle without breaking it.

Those who wish will be able to experience first-hand the thrill of leading Argo into the truffle bed and extracting the truffle from the ground. Gabriele will also be on hand to create a small video souvenir of the experience.

The activity will last a total of 1 hour.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable for all ages. Minors may participate without being accompanied by an adult.

The route is not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Other information

The experience takes place from October to March and is confirmed upon reaching a minimum number of 2 participants.

White truffle hunting is possible in the period from 1 October to 31 January, while black truffle hunting will continue in February and March.

The experience also takes place in light rain, while it is cancelled in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms.

There are no alternatives for allergies and food intolerances.

The truffles collected remain the property of the truffle hunter, but it will be possible to purchase them on site at a favourable price.

It is not possible to participate with your own dog.

The meeting point has free parking along the road and is not easily accessible by public transport.
