Imagine a historic villa nestled in the Umbrian hills, with a balcony over Orvieto so beautiful it takes your breath away. Tufa cellars dug underground and used since ancient times for the ageing of wines.
We welcome you to Tenuta Le Velette, Orvieto's largest family-run estate. Since 1877 the Bottai family has dedicated itself to the cultivation of traditional Umbrian vineyards and produces wines that embody the colours and aromas of the territory.

What we will do
The appointment is at Tenuta Le Velette in Orvieto (TR), at the time chosen for the activity.
After a welcome in the winery by the Bottai family, owners of the estate since 1877, we will begin our visit. We will enter the wine-making cellars to discover the history and production processes of this reality, and then take a real leap back in time.
In fact, we will immerse ourselves in the underground cellars dug into the tuff beneath the villa, where the barrique cellar is located. Walking along these corridors among soft lights, rows of bottles and barriques, we will feel as if we are entering another world.
In ancient times, the territory of the estate belonged to the Etruscans, who were the first to carve the volcanic soil to dig deep cellars, where temperatures are ideal for the fermentation and storage of white wines. Between tradition and modernisation, today Tenuta Le Velette has 270 hectares of vineyards and olive groves in the hills of Orvieto.
After visiting the winery, we will sit in the tasting room for a tasting of the wines that express this territory, such as Orvieto Classico DOC, Grechetto Umbria IGT and Rosso Orvietano DOC. We will taste five of the winery's wines, including whites and reds, according to the participants' preferences. The tasting will be accompanied by a platter of typical products such as cheeses, cold cuts, bread and home-produced olive oil.
We will not be able to leave without first taking some photos from the wonderful balcony of the estate, which offers a panoramic view of the Orvieto cliff and the surrounding vineyards. And of course without a few bottles to take home with us!
The activity will last about 1.5 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for everyone with no age limit. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The wine tasting is for adults only. Minors may participate in the experience free of charge; water and juice are available for them.
The tasting room is wheelchair-accessible, while the wine cellar is not.
Other information
The experience can be booked every day of the year, except on major holidays, and is confirmed with a minimum number of 2 participants.
On-site parking is available for guests. It is not possible to reach the winery by public transport.
