A historical kayaking trip in the Venice Lagoon offers the chance to discover in a unique and surprising way a side of this city invisible to mass tourism.
Historically, the lagoon formed the defensive line of the Venetian Republic, acting as a wall and moat and helping to keep enemies away from the city. Many of the defensive structures around the lagoon inlets can still be admired today. This tour is the best way to rediscover them!
If you are a lover of history, nature and outdoor activities, and if you want to fully experience the extraordinary culture of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, this is the experience for you!
What we will do
The meeting point is at the bar of the Hotel Certosa, on the lagoon island of the same name (you can get there by water bus 4.2). There we will form the group and, together with the guide, start preparing for the activity. You will be provided with all the necessary equipment and instructions so that you can have the best experience in total safety.
During the excursion we will be able to admire several points of historical interest: the Lazzaretto Novo, a complex of buildings used for quarantine of ships arriving from the East at the time of the plague epidemic in the 16th century; the monumental fort of Sant'Andrea, with its cannon mouths at water level; the Torre Massimiliana, a circular defensive structure built on the end of the island of Sant'Erasmo.
At certain times of the year it will be possible to visit the structures inside, at no extra charge. For lunch we will stop at Bacan beach, one of the most beautiful in the lagoon. There you will be able to buy food or eat a packed meal.
The excursion lasts a whole day and normally involves a 15 to 20 km route for 4 to 5 hours of 'active' paddling. For this reason, the activity is recommended for those with a good physical condition and a minimum of kayaking experience.

This activity is at an intermediate level. The minimum age for participation is 14. Good physical condition and a minimum of kayaking experience is required.
Other information
All valuables can be left in special boxes at the meeting point. The kayaks are equipped with watertight bags for storing small personal items.
This activity is bookable from March to November.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is very strict. You get a full refund if you cancel within 31 days from the activity start date. Within 30 and 15 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
