The city of Venice is unique in the world. Thousands and thousands of tourists flock to the downtown streets every year, drawn by attractions such as St. Mark's Square, Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. So to escape the sometimes really excessive crowds, you can visit Venice and its Lagoon with a canoe or kayak tour.
In addition to the city's historic center, in fact, there are many other picturesque places to discover around the capital of Veneto. The islands of Murano and Burano, ancient defensive fortresses and other buildings from the golden age of the Serenissima, are fascinating destinations that make a canoe and kayak tour in Venice truly a special experience.

While it is true that the gondola is the best mean of transportation to navigate the city’s rios and canals, when it comes to tours in the Venetian lagoon, canoes and kayaks are the way to go. These one- or two-seater boats are practical and easy to conduct even by those without much experience. A briefing on paddling techniques is always given before setting off on a guided tour. Of course, paddling for a long time, smoothly and efficiently requires good technique and some practice. There are, however, routes of different lengths and difficulties to meet everyone’s needs.
Why choose canoeing or kayaking? If you are an active person and for you tourism is a way to move around and experience the traditions of the place up close, you need to grab your paddle and go discover the most authentic places. This way, you will not only admire unseen views overlooked by mass tourism, but you will also take the opportunity to do some sport…which never hurts, even on vacation!
By kayak, it is possible to navigate along the city’s canals to discover the hidden corners of Venice, except for the heart of the historic center where navigation to non-scheduled vehicles is prohibited. Another option is to venture out into the lagoon to discover islands and other points of historical and natural interest.
The islands of Murano and Burano are absolutely not to be missed. Here it is recommended to stop for a stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, amidst the colorful houses and old workshops of glass and lace artisans. The Venice Lido and the islands of Certosa, Sant’Erasmo and Vignole also offer striking views.
Sailing in the Venetian lagoon is a real journey through history. You pass fortresses, monasteries and defensive or commercial buildings dating back centuries. One of the most fascinating attractions is the Lazzaretto Nuovo complex, which was used to quarantine ships coming from the East at the time of the plague.
A canoe or kayak tour in the Venetian lagoon has varying prices depending on the route and duration. To get an idea, a full-day tour costs between 125 and 160 euros per person, depending on the chosen destination. Fees include kayak, paddle, expert guide and photos of the experience.
If you’re tired of the usual gifts or are running out of ideas for upcoming birthdays for friends and family, you’ve come to the right place! Here you can find lots of original activities to gift excitement and experiences to remember.
A kayak tour is the right choice for those who want to combine sport, relaxation, nature and discovery. Whether done as a couple, with family or with a group of friends, a kayak tour fits any occasion. It can be just the fresh and fun gift you’ve been looking for!
