Full description
Have you ever tasted the coolest water in the Dolomites? And admire the Pale di San Martino from a natural balcony?
There is always a first time! Join us for a snowshoe hike in the Paneveggio Nature Park and enjoy one of the most beautiful views in the Alps.
Together with a guide, you will discover the birth and evolution of these mountains and spend a carefree day in the snowy forests!
What we will do
The meeting point is 20 minutes before 9 a. m. at the meeting point in San Martino di Castrozza (TN). We will meet our guide, who will hand us our snowshoes and give us an initial briefing to explain how best to move through the snow.
We will begin our adventure at an altitude of 1, 600 metres, starting from the large car park of the cable car. On the approach road, we will stop at the park's famous fountain to taste its pure water. We will then follow a path on the eastern slope, gently gaining altitude with wide hairpin bends that will allow us to immerse ourselves in the silence of the centuries-old fir forest.
Next, we will take the so-called 'Panzer Path', which cuts through the wooded slope until it intersects with the ski slope. Once we have reached an altitude of 1, 900 metres, we will leave the main path to deviate westwards in the direction of the ruins of the Rifugio Vecchio: from here we will enjoy a privileged view of the Pale di San Martino group, a true natural balcony over the Dolomites.
After a short break, we will resume climbing beyond the edge of the wood, where the snow will change consistency, giving us the pleasure of snowshoeing in a high altitude environment. We will return to the ridge dotted with boulders and mountain pines and tackle the last uphill stretch, which will take us directly to the Tognola hut. Here we will enjoy a moment of rest and sharing, choosing whether to eat a packed lunch or savour the refuge's typical dishes.
Finally, we will take the downhill path through the forest on the eastern slope, until we rejoin the forest road. We will finally return to the initial meeting point. The route will measure a total of 9. 8 km with an altitude difference of 580 metres.
The experience will last a total of 6. 5 hours, of which approximately 5 hours will be spent walking.
