Full description

Imagine walking in the presence of stone giants, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites!

This snowshoe hike in Cortina d'Ampezzo will take you far from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes, to immerse yourself in the muffled silence of the woods and reach one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Alps: Rifugio Scoiattoli.

A 5-hour experience combining nature and history, also thanks to your guide's exciting tales!

What we will do

The meeting point is 15 minutes before 9: 30 am at the meeting point in Cortina d'Ampezzo (BL) . Awaiting us will be our Environmental Hiking Guide who will hand us our snowshoes (included in the fee) and give us a short introductory briefing to explain how to wear them and how to move nimbly in the snow.

We will begin our adventure by entering a dense forest of pine and fir trees, moving away from the ski slopes to enjoy maximum tranquillity. Along the ascent, which will take about an hour and a quarter, we will take breaks where the guide will tell us the secrets of the forest. We will also pass by a natural spring which, in cold temperatures, often turns into a sheet of ice.

As we leave the forest, the scenery will offer us a spectacular view of the Dolomites to the south and east. We will continue past the Cinque Torri hut until we reach the Scoiattoli hut (2, 250 m) after another 30 minutes' walk. Here we can take a break to rest and admire the Cinque Torri from a privileged perspective.

If snow conditions permit, the return trip will take place by completing a loop on the ridge, where the trenches of the First World War are still visible, before rejoining the outward path to return to the meeting point.

The route will be about 8 km long with an altitude difference of 350 metres. The experience will last a total of 5 hours (of which about 3 hours of actual walking) .

The experience is suitable for ages 10 and up. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult participant.
