The most popular area for snowshoeing in Veneto is the Cadore and Belluno Dolomites, but Mount Baldo, Mount Grappa, and the Vicenza Pre-Alps also offer interesting routes suitable for everyone. Before booking a snowshoeing hike, it is good to consider the elevation gain of the route. In fact, although snowshoeing is an easy activity in itself, some routes involve long uphill sections and are suitable for the more trained.
The easier trails, on the other hand, are also suitable for children, who will have a great time sinking into the fresh snow and experiencing the magic of the mountains up close. In any case, regardless of the level of difficulty, it is good to be accompanied by a mountain guide because the mountain is unpredictable and conditions can change from one moment to the next.
In addition to the Belluno Dolomites and the Cadore area, there are very interesting routes on Mount Grappa and the Vicenza Pre-Alps. On the Grappa massif it is possible to retrace the routes of the Great War with snowshoes and not only admire the natural beauty but also take a journey through history.
The Asiago Plateau (also called “Sette Comuni”) has wide plateaus and gentle slopes and is perfect for those seeking snowshoeing with little elevation gain. Among the most popular destinations is Cima Mandriolo, which marks the border with Trentino. For those visiting this area, stopping at an alpine lodge and enjoying a lunch of local products is a must.
In addition, you can book a snowshoeing trip to Mount Baldo and admire Lake Garda from the snow-capped peaks of the surrounding mountains. This route can also be taken at sunset for an even more atmospheric experience.
When talking about the Dolomites, it is impossible not to mention Cortina d’Ampezzo, the queen of winter sports, snowshoeing included. In general, the Belluno Dolomites – which Cortina is part of-can be considered the realm of snowshoeing.
Some of the best snowshoeing destinations include Mount Piana, Mount Pore, Mount Civetta, Mount Rite, Lake Misurina, and the Tre Cime Di Lavaredo. The latter are a true icon of the Dolomites, and the easiest route to them starts from Lake Antorno, in Auronzo di Cadore.
Prices for snowshoeing in Veneto depend on location, duration and any extra included services in the price such as lunches, dinners or aperitifs. For example, a full-day snowshoeing hike to Mount Baldo costs 70€ per person, with guide, snowshoes and safety kit included. A half-day snowshoeing trip to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, including a snowmobile ride, costs €110 per person.
If you have friends or relatives who love the mountains, you can make them happy by giving them a snow experience. Snowshoeing is suitable for everyone, does not require special physical abilities, and therefore can be a fantastic gift idea. The landscapes of the Venetian mountains will amaze adults and children alike, leaving a beautiful memory etched in their memories. What are you waiting? Book a hike!
