Full description
Get ready to snowshoe in the presence of the King of the Maritime Alps Natural Park.
We present Monte Gelas: also known as the 'White Mountain' of the province of Cuneo, it was once home to the glaciers closest to the sea. Today, however, it is one of the natural attractions you can admire during our guided snowshoe hike in the winter setting of Entracque.
A 3-hour walk that will take you up to an altitude of 1,800 m!
What we will do
The appointment is at 09:30 at the meeting point in Entracque (CN). We will be welcomed by the guide who will accompany us on this adventure in the snow!
Once all the participants have gathered, we will proceed with handing over theequipment and listening to the guide's instructions: we will be taught the classic snowshoe hike, for a carefree first experience.
We will then venture into the Maritime Alps Natural Park: we will enter a wooded area characterised by pines and beeches, inhabited by animals such as chamois and lammergeyers. Having said goodbye to this wild scenery, we will proceed into an exposed snow-covered setting with views of Monte Argentera, Monte Matto and Monte Gelas; the latter is considered the 'White Mountain' of the Maritime Alps because the glaciers closest to the sea used to be here! We will then reach a refuge at an altitude of 1,800 metres, which will be our finish line for the day.
We will then return to the meeting point, completing a loop of 8 km with an altitude difference of +180 metres. The snowshoe hike will last 3 hours; the total experience will last 3 ½ hours.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for ages 8 and up; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The excursion is of an easy level and suitable for a first snowshoe hike.
The itinerary does not include any sections that might disturb those suffering from vertigo.
Other information
The experience takes place from January to March and is confirmed upon reaching a minimum number of 4 participants.
There is free parking on site. The meeting point can be reached by public transport.
The duration of the excursion may vary depending on the number and experience level of the participants.
Leashed dogs may participate in the experience.
