In Valmalenco, sunset seems to have an extra edge: when the sun dips behind the peaks and the snow changes colour, it's time to put on your snowshoes!
On this hike you will ascend to an altitude of 2000 metres by chairlift, experience a fun descent through the forest and enjoy a winter evening that slowly turns to night.
A guide will accompany you amidst the silence of the pines, the lights shining in the valley and the views of Lake Palü. And then everyone warms up in the hut with an excellent dinner!
What we will do
The meeting point is at 14: 00 in the locality of San Giuseppe, in the municipality of Chiesa in Valmalenco (SO) . Awaiting us will be the guide, ready to welcome us and accompany us throughout the experience.
Together we will take the chairlift (ticket included) that will take us to an altitude of 2000 metres. Once at the mountain station, we will receive our snowshoes and participate in a briefing on their use and the route we will face.
This is where the most fun part will begin: we will embark on a descent into the forest without a fixed route, letting the fresh snow guide us until we reach Lake Palù, which we will skirt admiring unique views of the Valmalenco peaks.
We will then continue into a forest of mountain pines and larches, until we reach the panoramic Alpe Roggione, one of the most suggestive points of our itinerary. As darkness falls, we will switch on our headlamps and set off down the valley, crossing two more alpine pastures immersed in the silence of the snowy forest. The route will be 6 km long, with an ascent of 100 metres and a descent of 600 metres.
Towards the end, a small local curiosity will await us, a stop to try and 'spot Bambi' in her enclosure. The activity will be followed by dinner at the refuge (included) , where a typical Valtellina menu awaits us: a platter of cold cuts and cheese, pizzoccheri, dessert, water, wine and coffee.
The experience will last about 7 hours in total, with about 3 hours of actual snowshoeing.
Who it is aimed at
The snowshoe hike is simple and suitable for everyone from 12 years of age. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
There are no exposed sections along the route.
Other information
The experience takes place every Saturday from December to February and is confirmed when there are at least 2 participants.
Important: itinerary and departure time may vary slightly due to weather conditions. Contact the guide a day or two before the activity to receive confirmation of the meeting and departure time and any changes to the itinerary. Use of the chairlift may not be necessary, depending on the route conditions.
Shadow, the guide's husky adventure companion, will be present during the snowshoe hike. She is good and will be kept on a leash for the duration of the hike. Four-legged friends can participate in the experience if they are used to other dogs, people and children, but they must always be kept on a leash.
If you wish to take out a daily accident insurance policy at a cost of €5, you will have to communicate your name, surname and tax code to the guide, at the contact details you will be given once your booking is confirmed by the Thursday before the excursion.
Vegetarian alternatives are available for dinner and for people with mild intolerances and celiac disease. However, it is not possible to guarantee options for those with allergies. In the event of food intolerances or vegetarian diets, please inform the guide at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is strict. You get a full refund if you cancel within 15 days from the activity start date. Within 14 and 8 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
