Surrounded by the highest peaks of the Rhaetian Alps and from the Bernina Massif, this valley is a true paradise for lovers of winter activities and for those seeking the peace and silence that only snow can provide. The main towns of Valmalenco, Lanzada and Chiesa in Valmalenco, are ideal starting points for snowshoeing. Among the most popular routes suitable for everyone is the one leading to Lake Palù. You can then reach the many refuges in Valmalenco, such as the Zoia Lodge, or walk the 3 Lodges Tour of Pizzo Scalino.
Among the options for snowshoeing in Lombardy, Valmalenco is certainly a destination to consider, especially for those who like to get off the beaten track and discover places with authentic charm. Snowshoeing is an activity for everyone, also suitable for families with children to experience fantastic carefree moments in the snow!
Lake Palù in Valmalenco is one of the most famous alpine lakes in Lombardy. Reaching it by snowshoeing is an exciting adventure that provides fabulous winter views. Starting from Chiesa in Valmalenco or other locations in the valley, there are several routes to get there. The easiest to do even on snowshoes is the Lake Palù loop, which starts from the hamlet of San Giuseppe.
Among the best snowshoeing in Valmalenco is the hike from Lanzada to the Zoia Lodge. Again, this is a loop trail with little elevation gain, so it is suitable for everyone. The route can also be walked with an Alpine Guide at sunset or by snowshoeing at night. By moonlight, the experience will be even more atmospheric.
On average, you do not spend much to go snowshoeing, considering that the cost of snowshoe and stick rental is around 10€ per person. This is different if you want to go on an organized snowshoeing hike led by a mountain guide (a recommended choice in order to remain safe at all times). To get an idea, a night or sunset snowshoe hike in Valmalenco at the Zoia Lodge costs €35 per person, including equipment.
If you want to give an original and different gift to your loved ones on Christmas this year, you can choose a snow adventure. By gifting a snowshoe hike, you will provide an opportunity for a cheerful and carefree experience in Italy’s most beautiful mountains. And if you want the experience to be truly unforgettable, a night snowshoeing trip combined perhaps with dinner at a lodge is the winning solution!

Great experience! Unfortunately the weather was not the best but the guide Gionata was very good and friendly not to mention the beautiful Shadows, his big dog who accompanied us 😊 the dinner at the refuge was also very good.
