Full description
In Valmalenco, the sunset seems to have something extra: when the sun sinks behind the peaks and the snow changes colour, it’s time to strap on your snowshoes!
On this hike, you’ll climb to an altitude of 2, 000 metres, enjoy a fun descent through the woods and savour a winter evening that slowly turns into night.
A guide will lead you through the silence of the pine trees, past the lights coming on in the valley and the views of the Rhaetian Alps. And then it’s off to the mountain hut to warm up with a delicious dinner!
What we will do
We’ll meet at 2. 00 pm at the meeting point in San Giuseppe, in the municipality of Chiesa in Valmalenco (SO). The guide will be there to welcome us and accompany us throughout the experience.
We’ll take the chairlift together (weather permitting) , which will take us up to an altitude of 2, 000 metres. Once we’ve met the guide, we’ll be given our snowshoes and take part in a brief briefing on how to use them and the route we’ll be following.
This is where the fun really begins: we’ll set off on a descent through the woods with no set route, letting the fresh snow guide us until we reach several mountain pastures, which we’ll skirt whilst admiring unique views of the Valmalenco peaks.
We’ll then continue through a forest of mountain pines and larch trees until we reach the panoramic Alpe Roggione, one of the most picturesque spots on our itinerary. As the light fades, we’ll switch on our headlamps and set off back down towards the valley, crossing two more mountain pastures immersed in the silence of the snow-covered woodland. The route will be 6 km long, with a 100-metre ascent and a 600-metre descent.
After the activity, we’ll enjoy dinner at the mountain refuge ( included) , where a traditional Valtellina menu awaits us: a platter of cold cuts and cheeses, pizzoccheri, dessert, water, wine and coffee.
The experience will last around 7 hours in total, with approximately 3 hours of actual snowshoeing.
Who it is aimed at
The snowshoe walk is an easy route and suitable for everyone aged 12 and over. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
There are no exposed sections along the route.
Other information
The tour takes place every Saturday from December to February and is confirmed once at least two participants have signed up.
Important: the route and departure time may vary slightly depending on weather conditions. Please contact the guide one or two days before the activity to confirm the meeting and departure times and any changes to the route. Use of the chairlift may not be necessary, depending on the conditions of the trail.
Shadow, the guide’s husky and adventure companion, will be joining us on the snowshoe hike. She is well-behaved and will be kept on a lead for the duration of the excursion. Your four-legged friends are welcome to join the experience provided they are used to other dogs, people and children, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.
If you wish to take out the daily accident insurance policy at a cost of €5, you must provide your first name, surname and tax code to the guide via the contact details that will be supplied once your booking has been confirmed by the Thursday preceding the excursion.
Vegetarian options are available for dinner, as well as options for those with mild food intolerances and coeliac disease. However, we cannot guarantee specific options for those with allergies. If you have any food intolerances or follow a vegetarian diet, please inform the guide using the contact details provided in your booking confirmation email.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is strict. You get a full refund if you cancel within 15 days from the activity start date. Within 14 and 8 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
