Snowshoeing in Valmalenco with dinner at the refuge and return under the stars

There is nothing better than experiencing winter in the snow and then warming up in a refuge. So enjoy a sunset snowshoe hike in Valmalenco, immersing yourself in snowy landscapes made even more fairy-tale-like by the last light of day.

You will walk with snowshoes on your feet and reach small lakes covered in ice and snow. Meanwhile, your guide will tell you fascinating legends and stories about the atmosphere in the mountains during winter.

It will be a rejuvenating experience, during which you can enjoy the silence of the forests and the good food at the hut to share with your fellow adventurers.

What we will do

We will meet the guide at Campo Franscia. Together we will fit chains to the cars and climb up to the starting point of our snowshoe hike. Once out of the cars, we will put on our snowshoes and have a briefing on their use and the hike.

We will start walking along snow-covered paths until we reach and cross the snow-covered Campagneda plains, and we will walk on plateaus where high peaks will accompany our snowshoe hike.

During the walk, we will listen to the guide's anecdotes and stories, alternating social moments with moments of silence in which to listen to the peace and calm of the mountains in winter.

We will reach a vantage point where the view will range from Pizzo Scalino to Disgrazia and other fascinating peaks of the Bernina range. It will be the perfect place to enjoy the sunset, when the last lights of the day will make the atmosphere even more magical.

Then comes the long-awaited moment: dinner at the refuge. We will enjoy a typical Valtellina dinner with a set menu, during which we will be served a platter of cold cuts and cheese with preserved vegetables, pizzoccheri, dessert, water, wine and coffee.

At the end of dinner, after sharing moments of joy and conviviality together with our fellow adventurers, we will be ready to return to the starting point with snowshoes on our feet and a torch on our foreheads to walk under the stars.

The route will be 10 km long with an altitude difference of 400 metres. The snowshoeing experience will last approximately 7 hours, including dinner (varying duration).

Who it is aimed at

The snowshoe hike is simple and suitable for everyone from 14 years of age.

Other information

The experience takes place every Saturday from December to March and is confirmed when there are at least 2 participants.

Important: itinerary and departure time may vary slightly due to weather conditions. Contact the guide a day or two before the activity to receive confirmation of the meeting and departure time and any changes to the itinerary.

Shadow, the guide's husky adventure companion, will be present during the snowshoe hike. She is good and will be kept on a leash for the duration of the hike. Four-legged friends can participate in the experience if they are used to other dogs, people and children, but they must always be kept on a leash.

If you wish to take out a daily accident insurance policy at a cost of €5, you will have to communicate your name, surname and tax code to the guide, at the contact details you will be given once your booking is confirmed by the Thursday before the excursion.

Vegetarian alternatives are available for dinner and for people with mild intolerances, while dedicated options for people with allergies or coeliac disease cannot be guaranteed. In the event of food intolerances or vegetarian diets, please inform the guide at the contact details given in your booking confirmation email.
