Sport climbing is an outdoor discipline that involves climbing rock walls, crags, by the strength of one’s body alone. Natural holds are exploited to climb to the top through the use of techniques based on holds and supports. Climbing phases are divided into frontal and lateral movements, interspersed with useful stops to study the route and choose how to move forward.
Progression should be smooth, ideally moving slowly but continuously. In this, breathing techniques and resting positions, which are useful in preserving and dosing energy in the best possible way, also become of paramount importance. The degrees of difficulty depend on the slope and conformation of the walls. A vertical wall, of course, is suitable only for experienced climbers.
Climbing equipment includes various accessories such as helmet, harness, ropes and carabiners. Clothing must be comfortable so as not to hinder movement. You need to wear appropriate climbing shoes and equip yourself with magnesite to create the right friction with the rock.
The Finale Ligure area has walls of varying difficulty, suitable for all types of climbers. Some are long routes, which can take up to a full day. Others, however, are perfect as first-time routes, for less experienced climbers.
Rocca di Corno, for example, was the first route to be climbed regularly, and it is still a favorite destination for sportsmen. Arriving at the top, the view gives you goosebumps. Rocca di Perti, on the other hand, is one of the most extensive facilities, with a wide variety of routes that make every climb different. Caprazoppa is a special crag, since it is one of those facing the Ligurian Sea on the south side. The scenery, in this case, is unique.
Capo Noli, for the same reason, is one of the most renowned and popular cliffs for climbers from Liguria and beyond. It features over a mile of limestone wall directly above the sea, from which one can often dive. Finally, the Bastionata di Boragni, besides being one of the largest structures, is also the one with the largest number of vertical walls.
Prices for a day of rock climbing in Finale Ligure vary depending on the difficulty of the wall and what is included in the package. An introductory climbing course, also suitable for children, can cost about €100. The figures go up to €300 for the most technical and difficult to reach crags.
Some experiences, given the proximity to the sea, also offer a sailing tour combined with climbing sheer cliffs above the water. In this case, however, you must be willing to pay up to €600.
